This production by Lyric Opera of San Diego of Engelbert Humperdinck’s classic opera, Hansel and Gretel, is the famous fairy-tale of two children who become lost in a forest and are captured by a witch whose gingerbread house proves too much of a temptation. In an explosive climax the defeated witch gets a taste of her own culinary methods, and there is a rousing happy ending as parents and children are happily and safely reunited.  Conducted by Kelly Kuo and starring an international cast including Hai-Ting Chinn, Scott Gregory and Kate Oberjat. This is as musically memorable and visually delightful as opera gets.

A Little Night Music, by Stephen Sondheim

Scott sings the lead role of Fedrik Egerman!

February 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 2010
7:30 pm Thursday, Fridays, Saturdays
2:30 pm Sundays

“A Little Night Music,” with a great waltz score by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, is based on the Ingmar Bergman film “Smiles of a Summer Night,” and contains Sondheim’s best known tune, “Send In the Clowns.”  Sondheim himself has described the show as “whipped cream with knives.” It is offered as a true American contender in the operetta repertoire, as well as an example of the best of Broadway.  This show is the most frequently produced American show in Europe’s opera houses, where it is known by its film title, “Smiles of a Summer Night,” and where it is considered a true modern masterwork.  'The role of Desiree Armfeldt will be taken by Andrea Huber, who was so popular in our opening season production of Kalman’s “Countess Maritza,” and who has played in most of the major capitols of Austria and Germany.  Andrea is an example of the International reach of our company and we are proud to bring her home to America to share her artistry with our company.'  International singer, and local teacher, Scott Gregory will bring his vocal and acting talents to the role of Fedrik Egerman.  J. Sherwood Montgomery will design and direct and Leon Natker will conduct the full orchestra in this enchanting score that is really an escape for adults.
