Originally from Illinois, mezzo-soprano, Pamela Laurent, received her B.S. in Theatre and Music from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and worked on her masters at the University of Illinois in Champagne/Urbana.  Ms Laurent began her career as a young artist with the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists in Chicago. While there, she sang a wide variety of roles on the main stage, including roles in Katya Kabanova, The Magic Flute, Gianni Schicchi, Rigoletto, Lulu, and Philip Glass’ Satyagraha. She later reprised her role of Mrs. Alexander in Satyagraha for Seattle Opera. While in Chicago, Ms Laurent won 1st prize in the Bel Canto Competition and was a Metropolitan Opera district finalist.  She has sung leading roles with various opera companies including, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Whitewater Opera, National Opera Company, and Seattle Opera.  She has sung the title role in Carmen, as well as leading roles in Hansel and Gretel, The Marriage of Figaro, La Cenerentola, The Tales of Hoffmann and The Merry Widow.

 

In Germany, Ms Laurent performed the role of Madame Giry, the ballet-mistress, for the German production of The Phantom of the Opera. 

 

Ms Laurent has been a soloist with the San Diego Symphony and was most recently seen as Tisbe for Lyric Opera San Diego’s production of Cinderella. In 2009, She will be singing the role of Frederika in The Waltz Dream also for Lyric Opera San Diego.

She currently has a voice studio in Encinitas with her husband, Scott Gregory.
