The Brothers Grimm will hit the NCSA stage (Brubeck Theatre) with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make!

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim have taken everyone's favorite storybook characters and brought them together for a timeless yet relevant piece.  Into the Woods is considered a rare modern classic. The TONY Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King's Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with sometimes disastrous results.

 NEW PRODUCTION ~ SMALLER SCALE

NCSA is departing from the traditional big musical with a large cast this coming summer.

How are things different for Into the Woods?

  • Only students aged 12-18 may audition.
The cast will be small (25-30 maximum).
  • Most roles will be double cast.
Even if you have been a previous NCSA cast member or a voice student, you still
may not be cast in Into the Woods. Casting will be selective and based on the direct needs within the script and music for the particular characters and their voice types.  Please do not take this personally.  It is a function of the more intimate nature of this show.
  • Cast members will be expected to learn more difficult music and sing harmonies.
  • Cast members are expected to spend time outside of rehearsals on their roles.
  • Auditions will be in May.
  • Aside from two intensive music rehearsals in May and in June, all rehearsals will be     condensed into a three week time period (Monday-Saturday) from 7/13-8/1 plus our technical week in the theatre from 8/2- 8/9.

For those of you who are unable to participate in Into the Woods, we want to remind you that we will have two big musicals planned in 2016 (TBA) that will be inclusive of all ages (8-Adult).  We definitely want old cast members back and new cast members to join us!

  • Please remember to note that past casting and involvement in NCSA shows, as well as the Voice Studio, is not a determining factor in any casting for our production of Into the Woods.

STUDENTS AGES 12 AND UNDER ~ SUMMER PLANS?

Consider enrolling and being part of our Best of Broadway Camp this coming summer.  Our theme this summer is Broadway’s Matilda and Oliver!  This two-week camp will be taught by our long standing creative team:  Pamela Laurent, Scott Gregory, and Danielle Levas

Dates: July 6-17 (Monday-Friday)
Times: 9:00am-2:00pm
Ages: 8-13

Rejoice!  The children’s revolution has arrived at North County School of the Arts!

Matilda the broadway musical, has been compared with The Lion King in it’s creativity, invention and genre redefining elements.  Oliver has remained to be one of the most beloved British musicals of all time.  These two British musicals have taken Broadway by storm! Students may  come with a thirst for musical theatre and quite possibly leave with a British accent!  ;-)
