Voice Class

Class held at our Encinitas Studio

Our small group voice class teaches young singers the fundamentals of proper singing technique.  Regardless of the song, the basics stay the same. We encourage and develop your budding singer as they learn to bring-out their creative and musical talents through song.  All students learn solo songs as well as group numbers.  Class culminates in a final demonstration/performance for family and friends. (Classes kept small for enhanced learning.)

Tuition: $160.00

Our popular acting class for young performers offers a fun and challenging approach to the basic skills of an actor. This fun-filled introduction to the world of stage uses improvisation, games, and other creative devices to teach the fundamentals of acting, mime and the language of theater.  The grand finale is a demonstration of improvisations and/or scenes for parents, relatives and friends. (Past students welcome in this class.  Acting class changes every session.)

Intermediate Acting

Come join the fun as our class creates a way for actors to stretch themselves and find new ideas and tools to help build their acting “chops” while learning to be more confidant and creative.  This intermediate acting class is always challenging and fun!  Taught by working, professional actors, the class helps students explore acting through improvisation, pantomime, small scenes, and acting games/exercises.  The class in designed for all abilities and levels of acting experience.

Comedy Sports for Kids

Jump into some seriously hilarious improvisations based on the comedy concepts of Comedy Sportz. Do you think you might want to be on a future Comedy Sportz team in high school? This is definitely the class for you.  This class is all about jumping in, having fun, playing hard, working together and finding your voice. Always fun, the class will focus on developing improv. skills and creating performers from students.

Develop skills such as “thinking on your feet”, using your imagination and knowing what to say in any given situation. Feel better about speaking in front of a group or just join in for the fun of participating in improvisational skits. If you are interested in acting or would like to be trained in the skills of improvisational comedy, here is your opportunity!

Beginning Tap Dance

You’re never too old to learn how to tap with the best of them!  This high-energy class places focus on the basic fundamental skills of tap dancing.  Learn the tap moves to a variety of different music and tempos.  Steps covered include shuffles, flaps and other combinations of steps needed for basic auditions ….or just for fun!  So get on your tap shoes, and let’s start making music with our feet!

This class is designed for either beginning tap students and/or students who have had a previous tap class but want to solidify basic skills.

Musical Theater Song and Dance

Always a favorite!  Expand your acting, singing and dancing skills in this triple threat class.  Learn some of the most famous songs and dances from contemporary and classic Broadway hits.  Students will learn steps that might be encountered in any theater audition, as well as work on vocal technique.   This is a real confidence builder for all would-be performers.  Class is for all levels and abilities.  

No prior experience necessary.  Be prepared for a lot of fun!

Audition!  

(Preparation for Actors/Singers)  

Ages 9-18
Tuesdays ~ 5:00pm-6:00pm
September 29th - November 17th 

(Class held at  Dance North County, Encinitas)

With the guidance of our professional acting/singing teacher, students learn how to enhance their stage presence and increase their comfort level when singing in front of an audience or a director. The final execution of the audition or performance is emphasized. 

* Students explore how to interpret and connect to the lyrics to tell the story in the song. 
* Students
learn how to select appropriate material for auditions. 
* Students
integrate performance techniques, along with basic vocal technique and breath control. 
* Students
develop appropriate audition material and learn the “dos” and “don’ts” of the audition process.

(Class culminates with a mock audition for each other as well as outside instructors/professionals.)

Former Broadway performer, Tamlyn Orlando, (42nd Street,Cats & New York City Rockette) presents a  

"One-off Workshop"

2 Hour Musical Theatre Dance Intensive

This new workshop will challenge students to take their performing to the next level.  The two hour session includes:

*Tips on mastering the dance audition

*Techniques you can start to use today
*Mock dance audition with feedback provided upon request 

*Two Broadway dance combinations

*Q & A about making it on Broadway
  

Tamlyn performed on Broadway in the Tony Award Winning revival of 42nd STREET (Diane) and DAME EDNA, THE ROYAL TOUR.  A Radio City Rockette, Tamlyn performed in the RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR for 4 seasons, toured in the Broadway National Company for CATS (Bombalurina & Cassandra) and made dozens of appearances on LATE NIGHT W/ DAVID LETTERMAN. Other credits: Several Disney Live Event Shows in both NYC & Orlando, Pre-Broadway workshops of EASTER PARADE (starring Tommy) Tune & URBAN COWBOY, and several star studded Encores! Series shows at City Center.

Tamlyn Orlando is the founder of the Broadway Artists Connection, an outreach program that helps artists connect, create, and give back to their communities.  She choreographs, teaches musical theatre and specializes in tap.  Tamlyn is a graduate  of University of Michigan Musical Theater program & has a Master in Arts Administration from Columbia University.  Tamlyn is looking forward to meeting the students at North County School of the Arts!

NOTE:  MASTER CLASS ~ AUDITOR OPTION
If you feel you aren't quite ready with your musical theatre dancing skills to participate in the class (or you are too young for the class), but you really want to hear the information and witness this active class with Ms Orlando, we recommend you sign up to be an auditor. Auditors are invited to sit in our "audience" and watch the students, the process of auditioning, listen, and participate in the Q and A session at the end of the master class. 
Taught by Tamlyn Brooke Orlando, former Broadway performer & New York City Rockette, the two hour session includes:
